Letter From the Founders

Our Story

Our life passion for over 25 years had been creating meaningful, life changing moments for those who attended Kensington Church, which we had the privilege of founding with 2 other couples in 1990.

We recently purchased a 30-acre farm in Metamora, MI that has become our primary residence.  Our hope is to preserve the beautiful history of this property, farm the land, and continue to create opportunities for people to experience significant life moments…this time in the context of a farm.

“Kairos” is one of 2 Greek words for time.  “Chronos”, the other, is linear or chronological time.  Kairos is a “special moment in time”.  A time pregnant with possibility. Moments where God grabs our attention and invites us into an adventure bigger and more beautiful than ourselves!

Vision

To create moments in the context of a farm, where people See beauty, truth and love, Know more deeply their true identity and value the identity of others, and are inspired to Bless the world.

Mission

“Creating moments that bring you life”

Strategy

We believe that God is continually reaching out to us in “Kairos” moments of all kinds.  Our dream at Kairos Farm is to help people recognize these moments in the following environments.

The Farm”

We hope to develop the property into a traditional working farm focusing on producing diverse varieties of clean, delicious food.   We believe the farm has much to teach.  In our fast paced, mechanistic world, our dream is to create space for people to slow down, experience the wonder of God’s creation first hand, care for it, receive from it, and learn how to live more beautifully as a result.

We were thrilled to be able to accomplish the following in our first season this year:

  • Sold 46 CSA memberships where families received fresh, clean produce for 10 weeks during the summer
  • Raised and processed 450 free range chickens
  • Developed a flock of 150 free range, laying hens
  • Had several people donate additional CSA memberships for families who experience food insecurity
  • Made weekly donations of our excess produce and poultry (over 1700 lbs) to “House of Hope” ministry
  • Provided produce to Clarkston Family Farm
  • Participated in the Oakland County Farmer’s Market.
“The Table”

We have been known for the “long table” in our dining room, that is always welcome to outsiders, who soon become insiders in an ever-growing family.  We plan to continue this tradition, creating a diverse, safe community where we share meals in different contexts, and encourage each other in our journeys.

“Safe and Sound”

From one on one mentoring, to respite care weekends for moms with children with special needs, to serving as a temporary safe house for women facing dangerous domestic situations, “Safe and Sound” will offer refuge for women facing extenuating circumstances.

“Life 101”

Life is complex.  Many of us have attempted to “win” at life by controlling, compartmentalizing, and choosing the “right” side.  We believe that being loved, loving one’s self, and loving others destroys the fear that is often our true motivation. For us to flourish, we need to move from an “Us/Them” mentality and learn to see how all things belong together.  Men and women.  Black and white. Career and family.  Pain and beauty.  Success and failure.  Through unhurried contact with nature, time alone with God, real and safe conversations, we begin to learn how to be “present”.  Not striving to prove our worth to ourselves and others, not consumed with the past or the future, not judging others so we can feel superior.  We begin to recognize the “Kairos” moments where God is inviting us to join him in “our” own transformation that brings life and restoration to our world.

We’re excited to see people develop their whole person. Intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.  From book studies and seminars, to getting your hands dirty as a volunteer, to our dream of creating a summer retreat for college age students, our hope is to help people discover their unique identity and feel empowered to express it with passion and purpose.

“Podcast”

Beginning in January 2021, we will be drawing from life lessons that we and our community are experiencing and learning from. All sorts of topics, hopefully shared in an honest, fun and meaningful way.  You’ll be the judge of that!

Thank you for joining us in the journey!
